Transfer Pumps

In order for the reactor to receive material, transfer pumps or diaphragm pumps are installed on the 55 gallon drum or 250 gallon tote in which the product is stored. The roles of these pumps are to bring material out of the drum or tote into the reactor and/or circulate material through the system. Most transfer pumps are powered by air and can range from 1:1 to 25:1 or higher. Common pumps used in spray foam insulation are usually 1:1 or 2:1 transfer pumps. transfer pumps are often called stick pumps which are the length of the drum and submerge into the drum. The air motor of the pump sticks out above the drum. diaphragm pumps are usually mounted on the well and small transfer hoses are used in coordination with a small stick to pump out of the drum. Today, most spray foam rigs come equipped with transfer pumps (stick pumps). transfer pumps and diaphragm pumps are connected to the reactor with transfer lines. These lines typically are sized between 3/4″ and 1″ for adequate feed volume.
