On March 28th, 2018, Honeywell announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the United Nations Environment to promote sustainable economic development and raise awareness of the importance of energy efficiency. The signing took place in Dubai, at Honeywell’s regional headquarters, and was signed by Erik Solheim and Norm Gilsdorf. Solheim serves as the executive director for UN Environment, while Gilsdorf is the president of Honeywell High Growth Regions (of Middle East, Russia, Turkey, and Central Asia). The goals outlined in the MOU include aiming to provide clean and affordable energy, and to take action to combat climate change and it’s impacts. Solheim stated at the signing, “UN Environment is the world’s leading environmental authority, tasked with promoting sustainable development through partnerships that protect our planet and inspire positive change. By working with Honeywell and others in the private sector, together we can take urgent action to combat climate change while delivering affordable and clean energy for all.”
